I write to inquire
whether a poem I sent
you from the West has
been accepted. I think
I called it "The Inalienable
Gift."
As I have not heard
from it, it has occurred
to me that some message
regarding it may have
been sent to me at
Chicago, and lost in
the mails with which
thieves have been making
havoc there.
If it is not to be used,
will you return it to
me either here or at
Beverly, Mass.?
If printed, I should
be glad to have a
copy of the paper con-
taining it sent me,
at Beverly, with check
for payment. My letters
are always forwarded
to me, either from there,
or from the accompanying
address.
Truly yours,
Lucy Larcom
